Why Opening Range Breakout?

A data-driven approach to breakout trading — built from real market experience, not backtested theory.

📊 What is Opening Range Breakout?

The Opening Range Breakout (ORB) is a price movement within a specific time window, typically at market open. The logic — one of the most widely used in trading — is that the high volume at the opening of a session is more likely to push price decisively in one direction.

This is partially true, but it remains subject to interpretation, trader sensitivity, and varies depending on the instrument and timeframe. For example, U.S. equity futures officially open at 9:30 AM New York time, while Crude Oil and EUR/USD open at 9:00 AM. The timeframe used for the opening candle also varies by trading style — legendary trader Pax, for instance, argues that the only correct timeframe for equity is the 30-second candle.

Beyond the official market open, we also track specific time windows where a breakout has statistically shown a higher probability of reaching its target. These time slots are the result of direct, hands-on work conducted in real time on the markets. While not strictly "ORB" in the traditional sense, they represent high-probability breakout windows that can be traded profitably.

🔍 What Makes Our Statistics Different?

There are many market statistics available online. Most only cover timeframes of 5 minutes or higher. Others simply report how often the high or low was broken — or both. This is of limited practical use, because none of it tells you whether the high was broken before the low, whether the initial breakout actually reached a target, or whether it reversed and hit the stop.

Statistics on very low timeframes are either limited or expensive to obtain, making it extremely difficult to gather this data independently without continuous, long-term market monitoring.

On this site, I take a different approach. Every strategy published has clearly defined targets and stops, verified in real time. These are statistics I've built by actually working the markets. The trade-off is that I can only offer what I've personally verified — so the selection is limited, but every data point is real.

🏦 Why ORB Works Well with Prop Firms

One of the key advantages of a breakout-based strategy is that it's perfectly suited for prop firm trading. Most prop firms enforce strict consistency rules that discourage erratic performance — large wins followed by small, inconsistent moves.

Consistent R:R Every trade uses a fixed 1:1 or 1:2 risk-reward ratio, maintaining steady consistency across your account.

Is This a Signal Service?

No. We do not provide trading signals, nor do we encourage anyone to follow the published strategies blindly. Instead, we encourage you to use this data as a foundation for your own study and research.

The actual economic result of any strategy depends heavily on your ability to enter positions correctly and your sensitivity in managing the trade — and this varies for every individual trader. These statistics are a starting point, not a prescription.
